Are diaper packs getting smaller? Diaper shrinkflation, brand by brand

How to compare diaper packs

1. Price per diaper. Pack price ÷ count, in the same size. Shelf tags often show a price per pack only.
2. Check the count on every size. Brands usually trim one or two diapers per size at the same time, so a cut in size 4 often means cuts in sizes 3, 5 and 6 too.
3. Watch subscription and club boxes. Kudos cut its monthly box from 180 to 174 diapers in size 3; a subscription price that stays the same can hide that.
4. Wipes count too. Baby wipe packs dropped from 64 to 56 (Huggies) and from 56 to 48 (HiPP, Huggies in the Netherlands).
5. Look it up: search a brand, or use the barcode lookup.

Did the price per diaper go up?

Where the source recorded the price before and after (7 cases), 7 cost more per diaper afterwards.

Why do diaper counts drop by one or two at a time?

Small cuts (for example 34 → 32 in a size 5 pack) are easy to miss because the box looks the same and the price tag compares packs, not diapers. Across many sizes they add up: a family using 6 diapers a day goes through roughly 180 a month, so losing two in every 32 means buying about one extra pack every few months.

How do I compare diaper prices fairly?

Work out the price per diaper: pack price ÷ count, for the same size. Counts differ by size (a size 6 pack holds fewer than a size 3), so compare the same size across brands and stores. The unit price calculator compares packs by item.
